Laser Hair Removal at Drexel Dermatology
Drexel dermatologists perform laser hair removal for a more permanent solution for unwanted hair. In general, several treatments are needed to achieve hair growth reduction that lasts.
About the Laser Hair Removal Procedure
Drexel dermatologists use a special laser to specifically target and destroy hair follicles. Energy in the form of light penetrates into the skin and is converted into heat that warms and damages the hair follicle. Treated hair falls out within one to two weeks after the laser session.
After six weeks to six months, there is a gradual regrowth of some of the hair that was treated. But, there is usually less hair than before and it is thinner and somewhat lighter in color. For best results, multiple sessions are needed.
Patients with blond, red, and white hair don't respond well to traditional laser removal. Patients are asked to avoid sun exposure and to use a broad-spectrum SPF 30 (or higher) sunscreen following the sessions.
