Candida Vaginitis Testing
CPT: 87481
Candida vaginitis is a common vaginal yeast infection that can be caused by hormones, medication or any changes to the immune system. Symptoms of Candida vaginitis include itchiness or soreness of the vagina, pain during sexual intercourse, discomfort during urination and abnormal vaginal discharge.
Candida vaginitis can be diagnosed with a transcription mediated amplification (TMA), polymerase chain reaction (PCR) or a nucleic acid amplification test (NAAT) from collected vaginal swabs. The BV and CV/TV assay is a NAAT that allows for the diagnosis of seven different vaginal infections including those of the Candida species.
