Drexel Medicine Celebrates Second Anniversary

Second Anniversary

July 7, 2023

Drexel University College of Medicine is pleased to recognize the two-year anniversary of Drexel Medicine as a clinical enterprise.

Drexel Medicine serves the Philadelphia community in alignment with the College’s missions of clinical care, education, research and community engagement. Drexel Medicine’s clinics have followed through on their commitment to advance new technologies into clinical practice, and we are pleased to welcome the Drexel Medicine Diagnostics clinical laboratory on July 1, our 2nd anniversary for relaunching Drexel Medicine’s Internal Medicine, Caring Together, Partnership Comprehensive Care Practice and Student Health Center.

Second-year highlights include:

  • Implementing the EPIC Garden Plot, electronic health record system, in August 2022
  • Re-opening the primary care call center for appointment scheduling and bill pay by phone
  • Expanding the Partnership clinic to enhance primary care and urgent/specialty care on separate units
  • Welcoming four new physicians at the Partnership, and creating and filling outreach manager and lab manager positions
  • Doubling available patient care time at St. Chris for pediatric HIV care, and opening again for urgent visits with Wednesday evening hours restarting
  • Implementing a joint inpatient/outpatient affiliation agreement with Jefferson Health for sharing clinical care and medical education services
  • Providing clinical education for approximately 120 Drexel medical student rotations at the four clinics
  • Providing clinical rotations for pharmacy students from the University of the Sciences, and Drexel’s nurse practitioner and physician assistant students year-round
  • Training eight residents at Caring Together for 16 months (two months each)
  • Awarding of the Environmental Collaboratory’s Inaugural Research Grant for the “Impacts of Climate Change on Primary Care Utilization and Needs in Philadelphia,” led by Drexel Internal Medicine
  • Receiving continued funding for three Ryan White HRSA grants to continue services for people with HIV at Partnership
  • Offering mpox vaccinations at all the clinics, as well as the Dornsife Community Wellness HUB. Vaccination efforts have expanded in part due to a $50,000 grant that the Partnership clinic received from the Philadelphia Department of Public Health
  • Partnering with the Associate Dean of Community Health, Annette Gadegbeku, MD, Office of Community Health and Health Equity, for new opportunities in community engagement including clinical teamwork in assessment and action to support patients and our neighboring Philadelphia urban communities
  • Creating a safer and more secure environment for patients and staff guided by Drexel Chief of Police, Mel Singleton
  • Receiving accolades for members of our clinical faculty who have been named Top Docs by Philadelphia magazine, received Golden Apple awards for their teaching and mentoring of students, and inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society

Please join us in acknowledging the progress and accomplishments of the professional staff, providers and clinical support teams that have made this past year of operations at Drexel Medicine a continued success.
